Rare early version by Unger, Lwów – partially damaged piece

Medal Design:

Bronze Greek cross with slightly curved arms and raised edges.
The obverse bears the inscription “NA POLU CHWAŁY” (“On the Field of Glory”) and a central Polish eagle on a shield.
The reverse shows a sword surrounded by a laurel wreath, flanked by the inscription “WALECZNYM” (“To the Valiant”).

This version was struck by the Unger workshop in Lwów, one of the earliest and most desirable private manufacturers before 1939.

Condition:

This example shows significant wear and damage.
The date on the lower arm has been deliberately removed. The cross retains an aged bronze patina, and the ribbon is of an incorrect type and color.

Historical and Collectible Significance:

The Krzyż Walecznych (Cross of Valour) was originally instituted in 1920 by Marshal Józef Piłsudski to honor acts of bravery in combat.
Early pieces made by Unger, Lwów are among the rarest interwar issues, valued by collectors for their distinctive hand-finished detail and historical connection to the Polish–Soviet War and early formations of the Polish Army.
